In Memoriam

Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him;
May his soul and the soul of all the faithful departed
through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Cabab family who recently lost their son Jovencio "Jake" Cabab Jr, III.

Report from CBS (Northern California):

NAPA CO.: BODY OF FAIRFIELD MAN RECOVERED FROM LAKE BERRYESSA NAPA (BCN) Fri, 23 May 2008 23:05:01 GMT
The body of a Fairfield man who disappeared in Lake Berryessa Thursday afternoon was recovered by the Napa County Sheriff's Office's Underwater Recovery Team this morning.
Jovencio Cabab, 23, was swimming with four friends and his sister at the lake's Oak Shore on the western shore when five members of his group waded into the water and walked to a small rock outcropping known as a mini-island 150 yards from the shoreline, Capt. John Robertson said.
The depth of the water there is between 5 and 19 feet. When the parties headed back to shore, the swimmers lost their footing and began struggling in the water because of strong winds and water current, Robertson said.
Bystanders on the shoreline helped two of the struggling swimmers and brought them to shore but the group lost sight of Cabab who was last seen swimming toward the shore.
The sheriff's department rescued members of the group from the outcropping and searched the area for Cabab. His body was recovered at 8:02 a.m. today in 19 feet of water 200 yards from Oak Shores, Robertson said.
The Napa County coroner's office is investigating the death.

Just Because

With Memorial Day coming up in the United States, i started to think of the great presences the US military had in Basey, especially Brgy. Salvacion, or Jinamoc (pronounce the "j" like an "h", HINAMOC).

Do you know what Jinamoc stands for? It sounds like a "filipino" name but its actually an acronym!

Jinamoc is an acronym that was used by US military forces during liberation which stands for “Joint Intelligence Naval and Military Operations Center.”

And i guess you can say, the name just stuck and now everyone refers to the island as JINAMOC!
