Happy Birthday, Sir Yu!

He might have been your classmate....your student....your compadre...your neighbor...your teacher....your boss... or bangin imo pa ngani urupod...a proud Basaynon that.....
whatever issues/ projects/meetings from school, to church, farming, philantrophy work, Basey Co-op.. and so many other aspects of society, for sure he's either part of it or most likely leading it....
and so many students, teachers, faculty members from different parts of Basey whether from Central or even all the way in Marabut..... they call him
"Sir Yu" (diri Sergio!)
Mr. Alejo Ma. P. Yu, or simply known as Leling or Mano Leling to Basaynons, or for me its, "Uncle Leling"..... we would like to greet you and say...

tourists...journalists.....are drawn into a reenactment of Jesus dying on the cross!
Only in the Philippines!! Only in the Philippines!!

Filipinos continue to carry on traditions from generations past on the solemn and important meanings of holy week!

BELATED Happy EASTER to all basaynons!

unfortunately some of us were not in the Philippines and had the chance to celebrate holy week and easter sunday with our loved ones in Basey, some haven't even had the chance to experience Holy Week in the Philippines ever!

so as a basaynon.... as a catholic... and away from the Philippines
what did you do during holy week? how did you observe this long filipino, catholic tradition? how does it feel being in the US or Canada during holy week? did you even feel like it was holy week?

let us know!

and i definitely recommend those that have never experienced holy week in the Philippines... to try it at least once in your life!
(thank u to all the great talent of those photographers that provided the pictures for this blog entry!)

Why a Blogspot?

As the secretary and assistant secretary of Basaynon Katig-Uban USA & Canada we wanted to be able to create different types of portals to reach out and communicate with our fellow Basaynons, effectively! We thought that a blogspot would be a great idea for any type of supplement/ addition to any news or topics in the Katig-Uban's newsletter. Having this blogspot also serves as a faster way to provid information to members as well as for members to give comments, feedback and suggestions! An even bonus is, you can easily access this site whereever you are in the world, whether your in Basay, Samar or Los Angeles, California, Atlanta, Georgia, or Paris, France.... the Katig-Uban is there for you!

Let us know what you think!

Thank you for all the trust and support!
Don't forget to come and visit, for any new updates!
