Belated Happy Easter, Basaynons!

Photobucket
preparing for holy week, a filipino vendor sells ornate palms for palm sunday!(i actually miss this part of palm sunday, i wish they had these nicely designed palm leaves for palm sunday here in the USA, such great filipino ingenuity!)

a "karo" similar to karos that are a major part of processions in Basey and provinces throughout the Philippines during holy week celebrations . In Basey, they still practice the washing of the feet of the disciples during holy Friday.... i wonder when they will start doing spa pedicures? =)

Photobucket
many devout catholics making sacrifices, even if it means physical inflictions, as part of their personal holy week penance. (and you thought you had it bad giving up sweets for lent!)

tourists...journalists.....are drawn into a reenactment of Jesus dying on the cross!
Only in the Philippines!! Only in the Philippines!!

Filipinos continue to carry on traditions from generations past on the solemn and important meanings of holy week!

BELATED Happy EASTER to all basaynons!

unfortunately some of us were not in the Philippines and had the chance to celebrate holy week and easter sunday with our loved ones in Basey, some haven't even had the chance to experience Holy Week in the Philippines ever!

so as a basaynon.... as a catholic... and away from the Philippines
what did you do during holy week? how did you observe this long filipino, catholic tradition? how does it feel being in the US or Canada during holy week? did you even feel like it was holy week?

let us know!

and i definitely recommend those that have never experienced holy week in the Philippines... to try it at least once in your life!
(thank u to all the great talent of those photographers that provided the pictures for this blog entry!)
