CLEAN GREEN BASEY

Basey wanting to move forward.... creating a clean and sanitized town ?!!?
Demolition of houses and illegal structures along the SEAWALL?
Basey to be more tourist-friendly?

Mayor Wilfredo Estorninos of Basey, Samar has initiated another developmental program that aims not only to secure a clean and healthy environment for the Basaynons but also to make the municipality a tourist-friendly LGU. This is the Clean and Sanitation Program which calls for the demolition of illegal structures including those already converted into residential houses, along the town’s seawall, to minimize environmental hazards caused by the occupants of the said structures, Ms. Bonavie M. Robinio, information assistant of Basey LGU, disclosed. Mayor Estorninos created the Clean and Sanitation Committee Task Force composed of the Municipal Health Officer, Municipal Engineer, Municipal Social Welfare Officer and the Tourism Officer, among others, which is now in the process of issuing notices of demolition to the constituents who will be affected by the project implementation. Ms. Vilma Tiu, the municipal social
welfare officer, informed that the affected individuals and families will be relocated at the Tinibgan area at Barangay Buscada within the poblacion. She added that the affected families will be recommended to become recipients of the Gawad Kalinga Program in collaboration with the Local Government of Basey.A component of the Program is the clearing of the waterways, particularly the Lawaan River, Golden River and other tributaries in Basey in line with the Save the River, Save Life concept.Another component is the clearing of 20 meters
easement from the seawall starting at Trece Martires Street at Barangay Baybay up to the Bridge of Barangay Palaypay in the poblacion area.Ms. Tiu disclosed that the demolition is in preparation to the LGU’s plan to put up Basey Riverwalk and Boulevard along said areas. Basey is fast becoming a tourist destination because of its natural wonders which include the Sohoton Cave, Rawis Caves and Balantak Falls, and the friendly and hospitable Basaynons. Indeed, Mayor Estorninos and the municipal officials of Basey are on the right track. Developmental projects such as this will surely bring not only more tourists to the municipality, more importantly, it will secure a clean and healthy environment for the people of Basey, Samar

Basaynon Priest

A Basaynon Priest will be in the United States to serve a month of holy work this summer. Fr. Anwar Adona will be serving the community of Sacred Heart Church in Galveston, Texas. The parish priest, Fr. Niall Nolin mentioned this great announcement on his weekly "notes from the pastor":
so if your near Galveston, Texas or visiting in that area around the month of June, go and visit our fellow Basaynon!

In my absence, you will have a priest friend of mine, whom I met in the Philippines last summer, to look after you. His name is Father Anwar Mari Llarenas Adona. He was born in Tacloban City in the Leyte Region of The Philippines, but there will be a wealth of information about him in an interview that will be published in next week’s bulletin. He will be here with you from next weekend until the end of June. It is his first time in the U.S., so make sure he goes back to the Philippines much heavier than he came. That's what
happened to me when I came here for the first time more than 15 years ago (from Ireland). I know you will be very welcoming and caring of him. I have already told him that he couldn’t come to a nicer community. He and you will both be blessed.

Basaynon in the Headlines

the following is an article written by Mr. Chito D. Dela Torre about our very own Katig-Uban member, and past president, Dr. Wilmo Orejola (from the New Jersey Chapter):

Dr. Wilmo C. Orejola – A great Basaynon in the U.S.A.

The oftentimes uncaring attitude of Basaynons who should have been very much aware about their own brothers and sisters who are making good names for the Philippines and the Filipinos other than themselves could be a cultural oversight and faux pas. A great Basaynon could have gained recognition about six years ago if not today. But perhaps even those who are close to this great
Samarnon prefer to be humble as not to brag about their kin’s greatness. That may explain for the similar failure of the other great Basaynons who are making a good fortune and name in Tacloban City and contributing enormously to the socio-economic growth and progress of the city that once was a mere settlement site (“sitio”, in the old Spanish times) of Basey, their hometown and birthplace, and yet prefer to remain behind the scene. In the realm of this oversight, this great Samarnon does not want to speak about himself and his
works, and what he is doing for the whole world. For many Basaynons are just like him. They don’t brag, yet they perform even if performing will make others deserving and noticed......

Everyday is a Blessing!

life is too short to be fake. Hold on to your kids if you have them, protect them and show them you love them everyday you wake up and see them, dont take a second you get to hug them, teach them and care for them, (don't take things) for granted. You can have all the material wealth in the universe but it is NOTHING compared to having your family. I am thankful for all of my blessings and im not one to question God's perfect plan; Its not promised to any of us.
